Former England skipper Charlotte Edwards announces CEF foundation, vows to serve women's cricket

Former England Women cricketer, Charlotte Edwards, has started a foundation named after her in order to serve the women’s cricket and upcoming young generation of women cricketers. Edwards announced retirement from international cricket in 2016 but continued to play the franchise cricket. In 2017, she decided to retire from all forms of cricket and after seven years she has commenced a foundation.

In a career that spanned almost 20 years, she was the captain of the England team for almost 10 years. Making her debut at the age of 16, she was then the youngest woman to have played for England. She led the England team to World Cup 2009 title. Under her England secured the inaugural World T20 title in 2010. While sharing the news of her Charlotte Edwards Foundation, she vowed to “give back to the women’s game”.

“I’m excited to announce the launch of the CEF foundation. Women and girls cricket is still underserved in many areas of the world. The Foundation is all about giving back to the women’s game and providing mentorship and resources, events, and grants. Together let’s make a difference,” Edwards wrote in her post on ‘X’.

Here’s Edward’s latest post on ‘X’:

Apart from this, the 45-year-old was awarded Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE). She is also associated with committees at the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and the International Cricket Council (ICC). England’s semi-final exit to Australia at the T20 World Cup 2016 in India was her last international game. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named the English Women’s Regional T20 Cup as the Charlotte Edwards Cup in honor of the veteran’s contribution to the national sport.
