Michael Slater has been remanded in police custody, due to facing 19 charges of assault and stalking. The former Australian Test cricketer had his case brought up in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday, April 15. The charges connected to purported offences on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast spanning from December 5, 2023, to April 12, 2024.
Among the charges are allegations of domestic violence, including unlawful stalking or intimidation, breaking into a dwelling with intent at night, common assault, assault resulting in bodily harm, and choking or suffocation. Additionally, the 54-year-old faces charges of breaching bail and ten counts of violating a domestic violence order.
As per ESPNCricinfo, police officials have confirmed the arrest of a 54-year-old man from Noosa Heads at a residence on the Sunshine Coast last Friday. The arrest was made following reported domestic violence incidents spanning several years. The former cricketer has been remanded in custody with the case scheduled for mention in the same court on Tuesday.
Slater, who made his debut during the 1993 Ashes tour, represented Australia in 74 Tests, scoring 5312 runs at an average of 42.83, featuring 14 tons. In addition, he played 42 ODIs for Australia. He ended his cricket career in 2004 and then chose the job of a TV commentary career thereafter.

Michael Slater’s arrest and charges
In October 2021, Michael Slater was arrested on charges of domestic violence, stalking, and using a carrier service to harass his ex-wife. In December 2021, NSW Police arrested him for allegedly breaching an apprehended violence order (AVO), following which he was released on police bail. In April 2022, he was the main subject of an investigation concerning alleged domestic violence, after similar charges were dismissed on mental health grounds. By May 2022, he was again arrested on charges of assault and stalking/intimidating while in July 2022, he was escorted to Manly Police Station and charged with breach of bail and then was granted bail once more.
In August 2022, Slater faced charges of common assault and one of attempted stalking or intimidation with intent to cause fear of physical or mental harm, following an alleged assault on a man at Frenchs Forest on Sydney’s northern beaches. Then, in September he was again arrested for purportedly breaching bail.

Meanwhile, in November 2022 he was convicted of domestic violence charges, harassment through a carriage service, stalking or intimidation, and common assault at Manly Local Court. In addition, the 54-year-old was arrested for assaulting a police officer and two counts of obstructing police after a confrontation in Noosa Heads in March 2023. Then, in November 2023, he was sentenced concerning the police altercation and in April 2024, he found himself arrested and charged 19 times.
