Former Australian opener Joe Burns is named as the captain of the Italian cricket team. The 35-year-old batter said it is the return to his family roots and a chance for him to contribute to the growth of cricket in the European nation going forward. A new beginning for the talented batter and it will be interesting to see how well he fares as a leader of the associate nation.

There have been a lot of talented batters playing for Australia but some of them do not manage to get to that level of success at all. One of the batters who is in the category is Joe Burns, who has given some great performances for the Aussies but has not managed to keep his place in the side. Burns had then decided to switch allegiance to Italy and started representing the nation in the game of cricket.

Joe Burns named as captain of Italy

Though Joe Burns might not have achieved a lot of success with Australia he has recently been named as the captain of the Italy side, which is a great achievement in itself. Though Italy is still very much new to the game of cricket, Burns has high aspirations as a leader and has also given an ambitious statement about being named the skipper of the team.

“For me, it is a return to my family’s roots. Italian cricket has enormous potential and I am excited to contribute to its growth. Together with my teammates, we are working to achieve ambitious goals and make our fans proud,” Burns was quoted as saying.

Though we would have liked to see Burns succeed in Australia, it turns out he has found his calling in Italy and seems motivated to represent the side in the future as well. Burns already has a lot of experience playing for one of the best teams in international cricket and it will be interesting to see what plans he will have while leading Italy on the international stage.
