Team India head coach Rahul Dravid voiced his stance on the batting depth and his view on the squad for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup following the loss against the West Indies in the fifth and final T20I match. Notably, the Windies outrightly dominated the Men in Blue to clinch the decider and the series 3-2, winning the contest by eight wickets.
Following the massive loss, head coach Dravid expressed that the management is working on addressing their batting in order to find depth in the line-up. In addition to this, he also stated that the squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup would be ‘slightly different’ as compared with the one in the series against the Windies.
“Our squad (for the World Cup) will be a little different to what we have here. In terms of the squad that we had here, it didn’t allow us the flexibility to have the combination to allow us to make the changes. Going forward, we will have to look at certain areas where we can get better,” Dravid told following the loss as quoted by Cricbuzz.
“Finding depth in our batting is an area that we are trying to address and do as best as we possibly can. But that’s certainly an area that we need to look at, how we can not weaken our bowling attack but have a certain depth in our batting that can go deeper. As the game is going on, the scores are becoming bigger and bigger,” he added.
Dravid further reflected on the ODI series as he stated that the think tank decided to make a few changes in the setup, keeping in mind the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup on the horizon. Notably, team India won the three-match ODI series 2-1.

“We tried to do a few things (in the ODI series) with the World Cup and the Asia Cup coming up. The goals of that (ODI series) were slightly different from what we wanted to achieve, and glad there were some important lessons from that one-day series and got the right result,” expressed Dravid.
