‘Felt he was not a T20 bowler’ – Aakash Chopra lauds Prasidh Krishna after T20I debut

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra was left impressed with pacer Prasidh Krishna’s brilliant outing with the ball on T20I debut against Ireland. Notably, Jasprit Bumrah-led team India clinched the first match by two runs (DLS method) to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Batting first, the Irish side was restricted to a meagre 139 as Prasidh Krishna, skipper Bumrah, and spinner Ravi Bishnoi claimed two wickets each. Playing his first T20I match, Prasidh earned massive praise from cricket-turned-broadcaster Chopra for his impressive outing with the ball. He further elaborated that the pacer would be best suited for the longer formats, considering his razor-sharp line and length.

“Two players were given their T20 cap – Rinku Singh and Prasidh Krishna made their debuts. It was slightly surprising that Prasidh hadn’t made his debut thus far. Apart from (Jasprit) Bumrah, the second good story was Prasidh,” Chopra told on his YouTube channel.

“Typically, when I look at Prasidh Krishna, I feel he is not a T20 bowler. He is a bowler who bowls good line and length, who will do extremely well in ODIs and Tests, but even for T20s, he has pace, the right basics, a fast yorker, the slower one is not that good but he can bowl that,” he explained.

Chopra further reflected on Prasidh’s forte of being able to extract bounce considering his height, which holds him in good stead.

“What happens with extra bounce and high-arm action? The greater the height from which the ball is released, the higher it bounces. The benefit of that is, because Prasidh is tall and has a high-arm action, the ball hits the upper part of the bat, on the sticker,” he added.

On the other hand, debutant Rinku Singh failed to get an opportunity to display his batting exploits in the rain-affected game. Rinku will look to make the most from the second T20I, which will be played at the Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin on Sunday, August 20.
