Dhoni was given the responsibility to captain India ahead of the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 played in South Africa. The Ranchi-born cricketer led a young side to glory and etched his name in the history books forever. He captained India in the 2011 ODI World Cup 2011 at home and helped the country end the 28-year drought of the mega title. Dhoni played a magnificent knock of 91* (79) in the final against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Furthermore, two years later, he led another young team to the Champions Trophy triumph in 2013 in England. Notably, India had an unbeaten run in the tournament after winning five games on the trot.

Recently in IPL 2023, Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings to a record-levelling fifth title in the tournament’s history. As a result, he became the most successful captain in the league along with Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma.

After having an illustrious career on the pitch, the talks of Dhoni’s retirement were all around ahead of the IPL 2023. However, the ‘Captain Cool’ has promised his fans that he will return in the next season to pay back for their tremendous support shown all across the country throughout the season.
