Rohit Sharma gave a stern warning to Sam Konstas and advised the youngster to focus on his game in an interview during the Lunch break on Day 2 of the fifth Test between India and Australia at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday, January 4.

During the final over on Day 1, Konstas tried to rile up Bumrah by getting into a needless altercation with the Indian pacer. This move turned out to be detrimental for Australia as it fired India’s stand-in captain up, and he responded by dismissing Usman Khawaja with a peach of a delivery a couple of balls later. As KL Rahul took a sharp catch in the slip cordon, the entire Indian team charged towards Konstas, giving the teenager a reminder that they mean business.

During the Lunch break on Day 2, Jatin Sapru asked Rohit to give his views on the unpleasant incident that has caught the attention of the cricket fraternity. The Mumbai batter, who opted to leave himself out of this game, said that the Indian players are generally calm but they know how to give it back when someone tries to get under their skin without any reason.

“Hamare Ladke Shaant hain, Ab koi faaltu ki ungli karega toh hum shaant thodi rahenge. Cricket khelo bas, faaltu ka bol Bachchan kaaye ko Karna (Our boys are calm, but if someone tries to poke us without a reason, we will not be quiet. Play cricket, don’t talk needlessly),” Rohit said during a coversation with Sapru and Irfan Pathan on Star Sports.

I thought we couldn’t have too many out-of-form players in the team: Rohit

Rohit also explained his decision to opt out of the Test match. The 38-year-old admitted that runs were not coming from his bat. He informed the selectors and coach Gautam Gambhir that it wouldn’t be a great idea for him to play the all-important encounter as there were already a few batters in the side who hadn’t been in great nick.

“I am not in form. Runs are not coming. We didn’t have too many players in form. I thought we couldn’t have too many out-of-form players in the team. I told the coach and the selectors. They backed my decision, saying that I have been playing for a long time and know what is best for me and the team,” Rohit noted.
