In a significant development, both Australia and the West Indies have unveiled their lineups for the much-anticipated first Test set to unfold in Adelaide on January 17.

With the departure of David Warner, Australian captain Pat Cummins has confirmed that Cameron Green will be making a return to the squad, taking up the crucial No. 4 spot. Notably, this marks a new beginning for Steven Smith, who is all set to embrace the role of a Test opener.

For the West Indies, skipper Kraigg Brathwaite has revealed that they will be introducing three debutants in the first Test. The newcomers include middle-order duo Kavem Hodge and Justin Greaves, along with emerging pace bowler Shamar Joseph.

One of the notable decisions in the Australian lineup is the fulfilment of Smith’s desire to open the batting, a position left vacant after Warner’s retirement. This strategic move by the selectors aims to optimise the team’s batting order and provide stability at the top. Green, who felt a bit hurried at No. 6, is poised to thrive in the No. 4 spot, showcasing his potential as a key asset in the team’s middle order.

Brian Lara’s mentorship and Shaun Tait’s coaching fuel West Indies’ spirited preparation

On the other hand, the West Indies, eager for a comeback after their 2-0 defeat in Australia last summer, face challenges with the absence of key allrounders Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers. However, the inclusion of debutants, including the promising Shamar Joseph, injects fresh energy into the side. With mentorship from the legendary Brian Lara and coaching guidance from Shaun Tait, the West Indies will be gearing up for a spirited performance.
