Australian ace fast bowler Mitchell Starc has praised India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. With regular captain Rohit Sharma on paternity leave, Bumrah is set to lead the team in the first Test at Perth, scheduled for November 22nd.

Bumrah in his previous tours to Australia has already claimed 32 wickets in 7 matches and is well versed with the conditions. Starc mentioned that Bumrah’s skillset is nothing short of extraordinary.

“The execution skill of Jasprit Bumrah at the moment is probably the best across all formats,” Starc said while peaking to Triple M Cricket.

Travis Head, another Australian player, has also mentioned Bumrah’s exceptional bowling skills. For India, Bumrah is more than just a bowler; he is a weapon capable of turning matches single-handedly.

“You try to feel like you’re one step ahead, but it always feels like he’s that next step. Any format of the game, he’s incredible. In big moments you want big players, and I think he’s their biggest. You’ve got your work cut out as a batter,” Head said while speaking to Fox Cricket.

Self-belief matters the most in any condition: Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah himself remains grounded and focused. In an interview with 7 Cricket, he emphasized the importance of self-belief and proper preparation.

“Self-belief matters the most in any condition. That is what we are banking on and that is the conversation we are having in our team. When you focus on yourself and focus on your preparation, then that puts you in a great position and everything else will take care of itself,” the pacer said.

It would be interesting to see how team India performs in the first Test against Australia where after losing the home Test series against New Zealand they are now struggling to qualify for the WTC finals. If Men in Blue want to play in the finals and win it they have to beat Australia by 4-0 in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
