After a batting collapse on Day 3 of the second Ashes Test, England are in a very tight spot in the Lord’s Test at the moment. Australia are in total control of the match and it might prove to be extremely difficult for the home team to find a solution and make a comeback in the last two days. However, former England skipper Eoin Morgan asked the team not to change their approach as it has worked for them multiple times in the past.
Notably, the Aussies are leading by 221 runs in their second innings with eight wickets in hand after Day 3 and thus, the morning session will be extremely crucial for England as it can decide the fate of the match. Thus, Morgan wants the team not to panic, and stick to the process as he reminded that the only way to beat Australia will be by playing the Bazball brand of cricket.
“I think England will stick with their method. It has been so successful for them in such a short space of time and we have watched the growth of players that have not been successful under previous leadership,” Morgan was quoted as saying on Sky Cricket.
“You have to continue with that method, particularly in testing times. The last thing an England player in the dressing room wants to see is playing Australia at their own game Australia are the best in the world at that. England will only beat Australia playing England’s game,” the 36-year-old added.
A 90mph delivery at your head rocks your foundations: Kevin Pietersen
After a brilliant start with the bat, England suffered a batting collapse as they lost the last nine wickets for 137 runs. This gave Australia a massive advantage as they look the favourites to win the Lord’s Test. Meanwhile, slamming England’s batting, former cricketer Kevin Pietersen stated that the batters were not comfortable playing against Aussie quicks.
“People have called England’s batting brainless, but a 90mph delivery at your head rocks your foundations. It is not comfortable,” Pietersen said.
