Indian team has reached Sri Lanka for the upcoming white-ball tour, with the first T20I slated to commence on July 27. Ahead of the crucial series, Sri Lanka have dealt a major blow as their pacer, Dushmanta Chameera has sustained an injury. The reason for the injury is not revealed yet, but the speedster is set to miss the whole series.

According to reports from Sports Pavilion Sri Lanka, the management is yet to name a replacement for the right-arm pacer. Chameera’s relationship with the injuries has been perpetual, as he has been inconsistent in featuring across formats since the T20 World Cup 2022. Moreover, he played only five games for his team Kandy Falcons in the recently concluded Lanka Premier League 2024.

The 32-year-old was named as the replacement for Gus Atkinson by the Kolkata Knight Riders during Indian Premier League 2024. He was named in Sri Lanka’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 but failed to make it to the playing XI and Nuwan Thushara and Matheesha Pathirana were preferred over him.

Sri Lanka enter the fray with leadership changes

Sri Lanka had a disastrous outing in the T20 World Cup 2024 as the team got ousted during the league stages. The underwhelming performance saw their captain, Wanindu Hasaranga, and coach, Chris Silverwood stepping down from their positions. Subsequently, Charith Asalanka was named as the new skipper and Sanath Jayasuriya will head the coaching department temporarily.
