Duleep Trophy 2024: Siraj, Umran ruled out with illness; Jadeja released

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been released from the Team B squad of the upcoming Duleep Trophy, which is slated to begin on September 5. The reason for the same hasn’t been revealed but he remains available for selection for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

Pacers Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik will also miss out domestic event due to illness. Navdeep Saini has been named as Siraj’s replacement in Team B while Gaurav Gupta will replace Umran in Team C. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce Jadeja’s replacement for the tournament.

Notably, Umran was suffering from dengue but returned to practice recently. He was training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and stated that he is fully focused on doing well in the Duleep Trophy after his recovery. However, it is believed that his health has deteriorated, leading him to be ruled out from the tournament.

The competition will be played across two venues – Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh and M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Some of the well-known players like Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, Mukesh Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav will feature in the tournament. Star cricketers like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah were given rest to remain fresh for the upcoming 10 Test matches.

India B: Abhimanyu Easwaran (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Musheer Khan, Nitish Kumar Reddy*, Washington Sundar, Navdeep Saini, Yash Dayal, Mukesh Kumar, Rahul Chahar, R Sai Kishore, Mohit Awasthi, N Jagadeesan (WK).
