The prestigious Duleep Trophy 2024-25 is set to return on September 5, 2024. This event marks the start of India’s upcoming 2024/2025 domestic season.

This year’s tournament is particularly significant as it will be a crucial preparatory platform for Indian cricketers aiming to secure their spots for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh in September. The competition will witness many top players like KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal to secure their Test spots.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a new format for the Duleep Trophy this season, progressing from the traditional zonal structure to a four-team setup. Teams A, B, C, and D will compete in a round-robin format, with no knockout stages.

The team with the most points at the end of the tournament will be named the winner. The tournament will take place across three venues, Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh (Rural Development Trust Stadium and ACA ADCA Ground) and Bengaluru (M Chinnaswamy Stadium), and will conclude on September 22.

To ensure the best possible preparation for the national squad, the BCCI has made participation mandatory for domestic players, although key players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravichandran Ashwin have been exempted to prevent injuries ahead of the Bangladesh series.
