India A locked horns with India C on Day 1 of the sixth match of the prestigious Duleep Trophy 2024 at the Rural Development Trust Stadium, in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. India C’s skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad called it correctly at the toss and elected to field first. Notably, this game is important for both sides, as the game’s result will decide who will have a better chance of lifting the trophy.

India A got off to a dreadful start as both the openers Pratham Singh and skipper Mayank Agarwal were dismissed for just six runs. India C’s Anshul Kamboj’s two brilliant deliveries set the tone for his side putting them in the driving seat earlier in the innings. The team’s woes continued as the left-handed batter Tilak Varma and promising all-rounder Riyan Parag departed early after adding just five and two runs to the team’s score tally.

A seemingly confident-looking Shashwat Rawat who scored a brilliant half-century in the last game against India D, arrived at the crease. Meanwhile, his partner Kumar Kushagra departed in no time after an eight-ball duck, thanks to Gaurav Yadav’s outstanding ball which he edged to the wicketkeeper.

Shashwat Rawat-Shams Mulani bail India A out of precarious situation

Post the dismissal, Shashwat Rawat partnered with Shams Mulani to steady the trembling ship of India A. Rawat and Mulani stitched a crucial 87-run partnership and took the score past the 100-run mark. Mulani scored a sublime 44, smashing five boundaries and a six during his stay. Meanwhile, Rawat went on to score a big century and remains unbeaten on 122* runs, lacing his innings with 15 boundaries. Tanush Kotian (10) tried to build on to the positive momentum but walked back after his 15-ball short stay and was the last wicket to fall in the day’s play.

Agarwal & Co. are currently batting on 224/7 and will continue to bat on the following day. For India C, Kamboj was the wrecker-in-chief with the ball, picking three wickets. Vijaykumar Vyshak contributed by bagging two, with Yadav ending with one.
