India D defeated India B by 257 runs in the final round of the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024. The Shreyas Iyer-led side lost the first two matches of the campaign but in the final game, they rose to the occasion to get the job done. The team management also changed the batting order, which worked in their favour and played a massive role in their success in Anantapur.
Devdutt Padikkal and Srikar Bharat were asked to open in the first innings and the duo stitched a partnership of 105 runs, which gave the team momentum. Both openers hit a half-century each and so did Ricky Bhui, who batted at number three. Later, keeper-batter Sanju Samson played a memorable knock of 106 runs to help the team post 349 runs in the first innings.
In reply, India B struggled big time. Captain Abhimanyu Easwaran once again scored a century while Washington Sundar made 87 runs but seven of their batters scored in single digits, which played a huge part in them being on the back foot. Saurabh Kumar picked up a five-for for India D as the B side were restricted to 282 runs in the second innings.
India D extended their lead further in the second innings. Bhui made an unbeaten 119 runs while captain Shreyas scored a half-century. They posted a target of 373 runs, which India B failed to score. They lacked character with the bat and that made India D’s job easier on the final day of the game.
Ace pacer Arshdeep Singh dominated with the ball, picking up six wickets while Aditya Thakare clinched four. The duo destroyed the batting unit of India B, securing a massive victory for the D side. Notably, India B were bundled for just 115 runs and with that, their hope to lift the trophy was over. They finished second on the points table.
