India A are in the ascendency at the end of Day 3 of their Duleep Trophy 2024 clash against India D at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur. Mayank Agarwal’s side set an improbable target of 488 before India D ended the day at 62/1, losing Atharva Taide for a five-ball duck.

India A started the Day at 115/1, having already taken a lead of 222 runs in the second innings. Pratham Singh and Tilak Varma played the India D bowlers on merit and kept the scoreboard moving. The former reached his maiden Duleep Trophy century after hitting Vidhwath Kaverappa for a six and two fours. The 32-year-old was eventually dismissed by Saurabh Kumar in the 60th over of the India A innings for a well-compiled 122 off 189 balls. He hit 12 fours and a solitary six during his brilliant knock.

Meanwhile, Tilak played cautiously and scored an unbeaten 111 off 193, belting nine boundaries. He formed a 115-run partnership with Pratham before adding 116 runs with Shashwat Rawat. The latter remained unbeaten on 64 off 88, with seven fours as India A declared on 380/3.

Khaleel Ahmed draws first blood for India A

India D had a herculean task in front of them as nearly four sessions were still left in the encounter. They did not get off to the best of starts as Khaleel Ahmed got him for the second time in the game. After the left-handed batter departed in the third over, Ricky Bhui joined Yash Dubey in the middle. Bhui played his shots and got to 44 off just 52 balls before Stumps on Day 3. His enterprising knock comprised eight fours and one maximum. Dubey, on the other hand, played patiently and scored an unbeaten 15 off 60 balls.

Shreyas Iyer’s side managed to get to 62/1 at Stumps and need another 426 runs on Day 4. However, the more feasible target for them is to salvage a draw by batting out the entirety of Day 4.
