West Zone and Central Zone are facing each other in the semifinals of the Duleep Trophy 2023 in Alur. Avesh Khan, who is playing for Central Zone, bowled 11 overs on Day 1 on Wednesday. However, an unfortunate injury stopped him from taking the field on Day 2.

The right-arm pacer suffered an injury on his right shoulder on Day 1 when he collided with teammate Rinku Singh while attempting to take a catch. Khan was taken off the field in the second session and did not take any further part in the day’s play. Prior to the start of play on Day 2, Khan wasn’t spotted doing the warm-up drills.

On Day 1, Avesh bowled 11 overs and gave away 26 runs, dismissing West Zone’s wicketkeeper Het Patel. After opting to bat first, West Zone could only manage to get to 220 as opposition captain Shivam Mavi breathed fire, scalping six wickets for just 43 runs in 19.5 overs. In reply, Central Zone are in a spot of bother at 87/5 at Lunch on Day 2.

Avesh Khan picked in India’s T20I squad for West Indies tour

Avesh Khan has played five ODIs and 15 T20Is for India, picking three and 13 wickets in the two formats, respectively. However, his last international appearance came in October 2022 in an ODI against South Africa at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

The 26-year-old didn’t have a great Indian Premier League season in 2023 where he finished with eight wickets in nine matches at an average of 35.38 and an economy of 9.76. However, there is no doubt about his talent and he can be an integral part of the Indian side as they look to build the core for the T20 World Cup in 2024.

In the quarterfinals of the Duleep Trophy, Khan took three wickets in the first innings against East Zone and one wicket in the second innings.
