Franchise Dubai Capitals (DC) created history by winning their maiden DP World International League T20 (ILT20 2025) title, defeating Desert Vipers (DV) by four wickets in the final, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, on February 9. Star players Rovman Powell and Sikandar Raza played crucial roles in the chase as the Capitals successfully chased down a target of 190.

Batting first, Vipers struggled initially as Obed McCoy provided early breakthroughs for his side, dismissing both Alex Hales and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. However, Max Holden stabilized the innings, hitting nine boundaries inside the powerplay to take Vipers to 53/2 after six overs. Holden reached a 32-ball fifty in no time.

At the halfway mark, Vipers were 76/3 after Dan Lawrence’s dismissal. Skipper Sam Curran then anchored the innings, partnering with Holden to take the innings deep before launching an assault in the death overs. Holden fell in the 16th over, but Azam Khan provided the necessary late flourish. Curran’s 28-ball 62 helped the Vipers post 189/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, the Sam Billings-led side found themselves in early trouble as David Warner, Gulbadin Naib, and their skipper fell cheaply, as they were struggling at 39/3 in the powerplay. But Powell and Shai Hope steadied the innings, building a crucial partnership. Hope’s dismissal to Curran raised the required rate, but Powell’s impressive 30-ball fifty kept DC in the hunt.

However when Powell was on just 2 off 6 balls, was stumped off Nathan Sowter, only for the third umpire to rule it a no-ball due to wicketkeeper Azam Khan’s gloves being positioned ahead of the stumps. Taking the opportunity, the West Indian batter turned the game in DC’s favour. He smashed 63 off 38 before departing, leaving Sikandar Raza to finish the job.

With 24 needed off 12 balls, Raza smashed three boundaries off Mohammad Amir. In the final over, with nine runs needed, Raza finished it in style, hitting Khuzaima Tanveer for a six and a four to seal the title for Dubai Capitals. Powell was named Player of the Match for his match-winning knock, while Sam Curran, who led from the front for Vipers with both bat and ball, was awarded Player of the Tournament.
