Indian bowling unit struggled in the second Test of the series against Australia in Adelaide. Barring Jasprit Bumrah, no other pacers were effective, even though Mohammed Siraj clinched four in the first innings. Both he and Harshit Rana were battered in the middle, resulting in Australia posting 337 runs in the first innings. That put pressure on the Indian team and the batters later failed to deliver, resulting in a 10-wicket defeat.
There was plenty of noise about Mohammed Shami during the match, especially when the Indian pacers were struggling. After the match, captain Rohit Sharma was asked about the pacer’s availability for the remainder of the series. In the same regard, the 37-year-old mentioned that the BCCI’s medical unit is monitoring him and the team management will take a call after Shami is deemed fit.
“Definitely. The door is very much open. We are monitoring him. He got some swelling on his knees in SMAT. We don’t want to have a situation where he pulls up in a match. We want to be sure. We don’t want to put pressure on him. BCCI medical team is monitoring him. We will take a call on what they are saying. We have to be careful. The door is open,” Rohit said in the press conference.
We look forward to shared responsibility: Rohit
For India to seal the series, the pacers need to step up in the remaining three matches. Bumrah has been top-notch and whenever the team was in trouble, captain Rohit turned towards him but the team management will also need to manage his workload. Rohit Sharma noted the importance of other players stepping up and spoke on the importance of shared responsibility.
