Pakistan’s underwhelming campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024, marked by losses in their initial two group-stage matches against USA and India sealed their fate. Despite subsequent victories over Canada and Ireland, they failed to reach to the next phase of the tournament.

Subsequently, selectors Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were ousted in a significant action taken by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi following his remarks that the team required drastic restructuring akin to open-heart surgery.

Later in the day, Wahab addressed the development in a lengthy social media post, expressing that while he had many thoughts to share, he chose not to engage in a contentious exchange of accusations.

In his post, he also conveyed his desire for the people of Pakistan, particularly the supporters, to understand that during his tenure, he exerted effort and dedication to enhance Pakistan cricket with genuine and heartfelt devotion to the sport. He also expressed it was a privilege to serve as part of the seven-member selection panel, emphasising that selection decisions were collectively made and accountability for those decisions was equally shared.

Furthermore, he conveyed that it was a profound honor to assist head coach, Gary Kirsten, and the coaching staff, expressing confidence that their strategic plans would undoubtedly guide the team towards sustained dominance. Concluding, he expressed his sincere wishes for ongoing success for the team.

The PCB is poised to restructure the composition of the selection committee, with the likelihood of appointing a new chief selector soon.
