Don’t think KKR would want RCB in the final: Varun Aaron

In this post, we discuss Varun Aaron’s view that KKR would prefer not to face RCB in the final, analyzing the potential reasons behind this statement. Kolkata Knight Riders decimated Sunrisers Hyderabad and picked up an eight-wicket win at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to qualify for the final of IPL 2024. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Wednesday, May 22 and the winner of the match will then move on to Qualifier 2 and play Hyderabad. The winner of that game will eventually be the other finalist in the cash-rich league.

Notably, Bengaluru lost seven out of their first eight games in IPL 2024 but made a stupendous comeback to win six matches on the trot and qualify for the playoffs. In the Eliminator against Rajasthan, the Faf du Plessis-led side will start as favourites, especially when the Royals haven’t won any of their last five matches. Meanwhile, if RCB topples the hurdle of RR and SRH in their next two games, the side will once again qualify for the final and will take on KKR on May 26 at Chepauk.

Interestingly, former cricketer Varun Aaron believes that the Knight Riders would want to avoid RCB at any cost. He noted that RCB have a lot of momentum and if they qualify for the final, the players would feel that the trophy is theirs to take and would be extremely dangerous.

“On paper, definitely they (KKR) will be favourite. But of course, the result is decided on the day. It doesn’t matter if your team is the best or the worst. I don’t think KKR would want RCB because they have the momentum. If RCB reach the final, they will have the belief that the trophy is theirs; nobody can stop them,” Aaron told ESPNCricinfo.

Meanwhile, KKR have already defeated RCB twice in the ongoing season – the last one being by just one run. Speaking about their dream opponent in the final, flamboyant all-rounder Andre Russell stated that the players aren’t worried about any team and are ready for the challenge.
