It is no surprise that the Indian team is filled with talent to the brim, be it in batting or bowling departments. Especially the top-order of India has a plethora of talent in their arsenal. With stars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli having reached their mid-thirties, it could be soon that India will look for replacements that can carry their legacy going forward.

Where players like Shubman Gill and KL Rahul have already established themselves in the team, Prithvi Shaw is one name who is yet to prove himself on the biggest stage. The 23-year-old has only played five Tests, six ODIs and a single T20I for India.

Keeping his minimal inclusion with the national team in mind, former Indian opener Murali Vijay came forward to question Shaw’s exclusion from the side. He opined that he could not understand why Shaw was not regularly selected despite his excellent form in domestic cricket.

“I don’t know why he is not playing now. Should ask the team management,” Vijay told Hindustan Times.

He also touched upon the recent performances of Shubamn Gill as he added:

“There are 15 superstars playing for India. If you are playing for India, you are already a superstar for me. But skill wise I really love Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw. They are top players. Rishabh Pant has done a great job for Indian cricket as well. I wish him a speedy recovery. Shreyas Iyer is doing well.”

KL should be left alone: Vijay

Vijay, apart from Shaw and Gill, also talked about KL Rahul, who has been struggling to find his form recently. The 38-year-old opined that Rahul should be left alone, as he knows what he needs to do.

“He knows what it is and what he needs to do to make a comeback. I think KL should be left alone and not be scrutinized the way they are at the moment. It happens to any cricketer. I think KL should take it easy, work on his basics, and use this time to unwind himself and rejuvenate and comeback strong,” Vijay said.
