Mumbai skipper Aryan Sakpal played a memorable knock against Gujarat in the finals of the Vijay Merchant Trophy in Alur. Courtesy of his 127 runs off 355 deliveries, Mumbai won the match by an innings and 38 runs and bagged the prestigious title. Following the win, Sakpal and his teammates had a dinner party with MCA officials in Bengaluru, which he described to be ‘amazing’.
Meanwhile, speaking about their incredible win, Sakpal stated that he is extremely proud of his journey. The cricketer used to watch the historic tournament on TV with his father and it was his dream to feature in it. He stated that it was a dream come true moment for him and happy to add another trophy to Mumbai’s bag.
“It was a very proud moment for me because I had seen this tournament being played on TV last year and before Covid-19. Mumbai had won the tournament that year too. I had a dream to play in the tournament, play in the finals so that I can appear on TV and help my team win the match. So it was a proud moment and that dream was also completed.” Sakpal told News18.
Notably, Sakpal also trains under Dinesh Lad, a veteran coach who worked with Rohit Sharma and Shardul Thakur in the past. Speaking about his learnings from him, Sakpal mentioned that Lad always remains available to help and also motivates them to play like the current India captain.
“Dinesh Lad Sir is very good, and whenever I need him, he is always available and always gives very good guidance. Whenever anything goes up or down, if you talk to him, it feels very good. Even when I lose patience when there is no opportunity, sir will tell me to have some patience. I act accordingly and it gives good results as well.
“Yes, sir talks about Rohit. He tries to guide us on how Rohit plays the pull shot, exemplifies how he used to win matches for his school team, and motivates us to do similar things,” he added.
