In a major development for the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), Devajit Lon Saikia has been appointed as the acting secretary of the Indian board’s President, Roger Binny, replacing Jay Shah, who recently took over as the new ICC (International Cricket Council) Chief.

Hailing from Assam, Saikia is a former first-class cricketer, and it is worth noting that Binny used his constitutional powers to appoint Saikia as the acting secretary until a permanent secretary can be appointed by the BCCI. It has been understood that Saikia will continue as the acting secretary until September 2025, before the vacancy can be filled on a permanent basis. Besides, Binny also showed his confidence in Saikia by saying that he believes that the interim Secretary will carry on his duties quite efficiently.

“The president shall in the event of vacancy or indisposition shall delegate the functions to another office bearer until the vacancy is duly filled up or indisposition ceases. Accordingly, I delegate the functions of secretary to you till the post is filled up by processes laid down as per BCCI rules and regulations. I am confident you will perform the duties to the best of your abilities and with aplomb,” Binny wrote to Saikia.
