New Delhi, 27th August, 2024: Aayush’s five-wicket haul helped Purani Dilli 6 register a win over North Delhi Strikers by 20 runs in the ongoing Delhi Premier League T20 at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.
Chasing the target of 193 runs, North Delhi Strikers opened the innings with Vaibhav Kandpal and Sarthak Ranjan. It was Aayush Singh Thakur who struck in his first over dismissing Sarthak Ranjan for a duck giving his team a phenomenal start.
Aayush struck again in his second over as he dismissed Yash Dabas for 6 runs which left the North Delhi Strikers struggling at 19/2 in 2.4 overs. Vaibhav Kandpal and Yajas Sharma made a 55-run partnership off 30 balls for the fourth wicket. Kshitiz was dismissed as Aayush picked up his third wicket.
Yajas Sharma was sent back to the dugout as he was run out for 41 runs off 20 balls. At half-way stage, North Delhi Strikers were 94/4. Vaibhav Kandpal along with Vaibhav Rawal then took on the responsibility of chasing the target. The duo started finding boundaries at regular intervals keeping the run rate in their control. However, Purani Dilli 6 got back in the game as Vaibhav Rawal was run out at a crucial time leaving North Delhi Strikers needing 58 runs off 32 balls.
North Delhi Strikers suffered a major setback when Vaibhav Kandpal was dismissed for 57 runs off 43 balls by Aayush. Aayush took his 5-wicket haul as he dismissed Pranshu for a duck. North Delhi Strikers managed 172/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Earlier in the contest, North Delhi Strikers won the toss and elected to bowl first. For Purani Dilli 6, their Captain Arpit Rana and Sanat Sangwan opened the innings. Arpit and Sanat got off to a flying start as both of them took it to the opposition bowling.
At the end of powerplay, Purani Dilli 6 were 64/0. The match was nicely poised as it entered the crucial middle phase of the game. Soon after the powerplay, Arpit Rana was dismissed by Vaibhav Kandpal for 42 runs off 26 balls. His innings included six boundaries and one six.
With Arpit back in the pavilion, Sanat was next to take the long walk back as he was dismissed by Manan Bhardwaj for 47 runs off 28 balls. His innings included six boundaries and two sixes. Keshav Dalal was next to take the crease but his innings was short as Vaibhav Kandpal struck again. At the half-way stage, Purani Dilli 6 were 100/3.
Arnav Bugga and Lalit Yadav then had a 38-run partnership off 28 balls which helped the team post a big score. Towards the end of the innings, Arnav Bugga contributed with 39 runs off 29 balls. He was ably supported by Mayank Gusain, who remained unbeaten at 40 off just 12 balls. His blistering innings included one boundary and five sixes. Purani Dilli 6 posted a score of 192/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
For North Delhi Strikers, Vaibhav Kandpal was the pick of the bowler as he took 2/28. Pranshu, Suyash, Aman and Manan took one wicket apiece.
