An all-round display from Mitchell Marsh followed by a sensational 87-run knock from Philip Salt helped Delhi Capitals seal the deal against Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets in match number 50 of Indian Premier League 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first. The openers got off to a flier, both Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli continued their batting form, as the duo added 82 runs for the first wicket in 10.3 overs. Du Plessis smashed 45 off 32 balls before getting dismissed off Mitchell Marsh’s delivery trying to clear the boundary. Marsh not only broke the partnership, but also struck twice in two balls to dismiss the in-form Glenn Maxwell for a golden duck.

However, Virat Kohli kept the scoreboard ticking, as he along with Mahipal Lomror added 55 runs for the third wicket. Kohli rose to his 50th IPL half-century before getting dismissed by Mukesh Kumar for 55 runs. Mahipal Lomror continued to pile runs as he registered his maiden IPL fifty and remained unbeaten on 54. His knock included nine boundaries

Cameos from Dinesh Karthik and Anuj Rawat at the end helped RCB post a good total of 181 in 20 overs. For DC, Mitchell Marsh was the pick of the bowlers for his spell of 2/21 in three overs.

Chasing 182, DC’s innings was all about Philip Salt, as he scored a brilliant 45-ball 87, smacking RCB bowlers all around the ground for fun. His 87-run knock included eight fours and six maximums, but he couldn’t finish the game on his own as Karn Sharma knocked him out at the fag end of the game. Mitchell Marsh (26 off 17), David Warner (22 off 14) and Rilee Rossouw (35 off 22) all played around Salt to help DC register their fourth win of the tournament. DC now have won four out of last five games.
