The controversy around the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 doesn’t seem to stop as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) for unruly crowd behaviour during the match. In the game played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 14, Pakistan captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan were subjected to disrespectful conduct by the crowd present in the stadium.
After the match ended, Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur had also expressed disappointment on the lack of support for his side in the world’s largest stadium. Three days after the game, PCB has finally decided to take action against it and have filed a complaint with the ICC regarding the matter. The Pakistan board also lodged another formal protest over delays in visas for Pakistani journalists and the absence of visa policy for fans.
PCB informed about the matter on their X account and wrote, “The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged another formal protest with the ICC over delays in visas for Pakistani journalists and the absence of a visa policy for Pakistan fans for the ongoing World Cup 2023. The PCB has also filed a complaint regarding inappropriate conduct targeted at the Pakistan squad during the India vs Pakistan match held on 14 October 2023.”

Notably, during the match, Pakistan captain Babar was booed at the toss while a viral video after the game showed the crowd chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram (Hail Lord Ram!)’ as Rizwan was walking back to the pavilion. After the game, Arthur had criticised the crowd behaviour by terming the match as a ‘BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) event’ rather than an ‘ICC event’. He also complained about the song ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ not being played at the venue during the game.
