CSK vs SRH IPL 2024 Match 46: Daryl Mitchell's 5 Catches and Fifty, Ruturaj Gaikwad's 98 runs, Tushar's Four Wickets

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were blown away by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 46 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The five-time champions registered a thumping 78-run win at their den – the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Consequently, they climbed up to the third position on the points table.

The visitors were flying high in the tournament, posting mammoth totals on the board. But Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) shunned all the hype after asking them to field first in the previous match. SRH have now lost two back-to-back games while chasing and their loopholes are well recognized by their opponents.

Talking about the match, CSK scored 212 for the loss of three wickets on the back of half-centuries from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell. SRH, in reply, lost their in-form openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma for cheap scores early on. Their middle-order was completely exposed tonight and they couldn’t save their team from trouble. Pacers Tushar Deshpande and Matheesha Pathirana were the wreckers in chiefs with the ball for CSK.

Here are the standout performances from CSK vs SRH IPL 2024, Match 47

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 98 run

CSK got off to a poor start as they lost out-of-form Ajinkya Rahane early on. However, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell steadied the ship with a 100-plus partnership for the second wicket. Gaikwad fell for two runs before completing his third IPL century.

The right-hander’s solid knock of 98 off 54 balls was entertained with 10 fours and three sixes. He is currently the second-highest run scorer in the tournament with 447 runs, only behind RCB opener Virat Kohli. He has three half-centuries and a hundred to his credit so far.

Daryl Mitchell’s 5 Catches and Fifty

The New Zealand batter finally found his form as he slammed his maiden fifty in IPL. Daryl Mitchell was under fire for wasting his opportunities but he managed to prove his mettle with a crucial partnership with Gaikwad. Mitchell scored 52 off 32 balls with the help of seven fours and a maximum.

Notably, he also took the record for joint-most field catches in the league. Mitchell dismissed five CSK players with his fielding prowess and tied Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi for the record. It was also the joint-most catch dismissals for SRH in an IPL innings (9 dismissals).

Tushar Deshpande picks up four wickets

The CSK fast bowler wreaked havoc with the new ball in the powerplay. He dismissed Travis Head, Anmolpreet Singh and Abhishek Sharma in quick succession to give his team an early lead. The right-arm pacer completed his four-wicket haul with the wicket of SRH skipper Pat Cummins in the 18th over.

Tushar Deshpande recorded figures of 4/27 in his three overs – his best-ever in the IPL. Notably, his brilliant spell helped CSK to all-out an opponent for the first time this season. This 78-run defeat was SRH’s biggest defeat in terms of runs in the IPL.
