A clinical bowling display followed by Devon Conway’s third consecutive fifty in IPL 2023 saw Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by a margin of seven wickets in match number 29 of the Indian Premier League 2023.

The toss belonged to the hosts as MS Dhoni & Co decided to bowl first. SRH got off to a brisk start in the powerplay, but Akash Singh drew the first blood for CSK as Harry Brook departed after a 13-ball-18 run cameo. The ploy to open with Abhishek Sharma worked for SRH as he scored quick runs at the top of the order, as he, along with Rahul Tripathi, added 36 runs for the second wicket before being dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja for 34 off 26 balls.

Ravindra Jadeja and Maheesh Theekshana chipped in with wickets in the middle overs as SRH’s middle-order fell in quick succession and were left reeling at 95/5 in 13.5 overs. Heinrich Klaasen (17 off 16) and Marco Jansen (17* off 22) helped SRH post a decent total of 134 in 20 overs.

Chasing 135, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway shared 87 runs for the opening partnership. While the former got run out for 35, New Zealand opener Conway kept going as he raised his third consecutive half-century in IPL 2023 with a knock that included thirteen boundaries. Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu, and Moeen Ali – all came up with little cameos to help CSK easily chase 135 with seven wickets to spare.
