Cricket Australia reports unprecedented ticket sales for Boxing Day Test against India

The delirium of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy seems to be touching an all-time high after Cricket Australia reported unprecedented figures for the ticket sales for the Boxing Day Test to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. While the first day’s play on December 26 has seen three times the sales compared to that in the 2018-19 season, days 2-4 have swelled by a stunning 5.5 times since India’s last pre-COVID tour Down Under.

There is also a significant rise in interest from Indian tourists, with 3.9% of the current buyers of tickers from India. The number was a meagre 0.7% in the aforementioned series which India clinched by winning two with the hosts only managing to win the lone Test match.

The same was iterated by the Executive General Manager working in the Events & Operations department of CA, Joel Morrison.

“The Border Gavaskar series is a highly-anticipated event and current ticket sales demonstrate there is enormous interest in the upcoming contest between Australia and India. Tickets are selling fast for all five Tests as excitement continues to build for the summer ahead, so we’re encouraging fans to buy tickets now to ensure they don’t miss out on any of the action. We also continue to see strong sales from Indian fans as well as Australian fans, presenting a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the enduring connection between our two countries both on and off the field, with a large contingent of travelling fans expected to attend Tests across the summer,” stated Morrison, as quoted by India Today.

Boxing Day Test might be the decider between both teams

With Australia posessing a majestic record of winning 67 of the 116 Tests played at the MCG and India having a decent record at the venue in the recent past, it will be quite interesting to witness the fourth Test of the series, scheduled to commence on December 26, 2024.
