Cricket Australia names Jasprit Bumrah captain in Test team of year 2024

Cricket Australia names Jasprit Bumrah captain in Test team of year 2024

Though the Indian team is struggling in Australia as the Pat Cummins led side has edged past the visitors by 2-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, some Indian cricketers have been acknowledged by the countries cricket board. As the 2024 is nearing its end, paving way for a new cricketing calendar, Cricket Australia have unveiled its Test team of the year. Young stars such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rachin Ravindra and Kamindu Mendis have made it to the list.

Surprisingly, there are only two Australians in the team namely Josh Hazlewood and Alex Carey as Australia captain, Pat Cummins has been left out. Moreover, the board has named star India pacer, Jasprit Bumrah as the captain of the team, who has had a prolific outing in the longest format in 2024. While unveiling the team, CA highlighted the impact of Bumrah and regarded him among the best the sport has ever seen, who had previously dominated the calendar years as bowlers.

“One of the greatest calendar years by a bowler ever; not since Dale Steyn’s 74-wicket 2008 has a pace bowler been as prolific and not since Imran Khan’s 1982 (62 victims at 13.29) has one taken them at a better rate,” CA, the game’s governing body in the country, said of Bumrah,” CA said in a statement.

“Yes, he has torched Australia amid of the greatest tours by a visiting quick of all-time, but he also cleaned up England with 19 poles in four Tests on unhelpful home surfaces as every other seamer went around the park. As the only member of this side to have skippered their team in 2024 (leading India to victory in Perth) Bumrah also gets the captaincy reins – a job he could well see more of in the future,” it added.

Cricket Australia’s Test Team of the Year:

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Rachin Ravindra, Harry Brook, Kamindu Mendis, Alex Carey (wk), Matt Henry, Jasprit Bumrah (c), Josh Hazlewood, Keshav Maharaj
