‘Considering last few weeks we have had..’ – Prithi Ashwin shares feeling on husband’s 100-Test milestone

Ravichandran Ashwin valiantly held back tears as his eyes and gentle smile told the tale. Alongside his wife Prithi Ashwin and two young daughters, he listened to India’s head coach Rahul Dravid’s heartfelt speech, encapsulating Ashwin’s remarkable journey of 100 Tests. Despite the ball leaving his hand and words flowing freely, emotions remained contained. Dravid’s words echoed, leaving a mark on the occasion. Ashwin’s legacy stood tall, as he embraced the milestone occasion of his remarkable journey with grace and humility.

In an illustrious career, marked by remarkable milestones, his 100th Test holds a distinct place. Noteworthy feats include becoming the world’s second-fastest to claim 500 Test wickets and surpassing Anil Kumble as India’s highest wicket-taker at home. However, the century of Test appearances adds a unique chapter. Joining the elite club of 14 Indian cricketers having achieved this milestone, Ashwin’s journey reflects dedication and skill. His century stands as a testament to his enduring skill in the game. His wife, Prithi echoed similar sentiments.

‘It’s been a lot actually. The build-up to it (100th Test) has been unbelievable. We were looking to look at it as another game. But, I don’t think that happens when you come so close to the milestone. So, considering the last few weeks we have had, I think this is the start of better things to come. It’s an insane achievement how far he has come. With help of his mates, family and everybody. The massive support system he has got, his own hard work, it’s surreal. A bit lost now, but it’s very nice,” Prithi said in a video released by BCCI.

Ashwin shines in his 100th Test appearance

In his 100th Test appearance, Ashwin displayed his mastery, claiming two wickets in three balls against England. Tom Hartley’s slog-sweep found the hands of deep mid-wicket, followed swiftly by Mark Wood’s edge to slip. England’s fortune hung in the balance as Jurel missed a chance to dismiss Bashir off Jadeja. 

After tea, Ashwin struck again, as Ben Foakes’ sweep led to a calamitous dismissal, crashing onto his stumps. Despite James Anderson’s survival of an LBW appeal, his slog against Ashwin resulted in a mistimed shot to mid-wicket. England’s innings, failing to reach 60 overs, concluded with Ashwin’s relentless spell.
