India played three pacers- Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep – in the first Test against Bangladesh at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ahead of the second Test in Kanpur’s Green Park, assistant coach Abhishek Nayar stated that they are open to changing the combination as the conditions have changed massively in recent times.

Traditionally, Kanpur has been a paradise for the spinners and if it remains the same, India are likely to play either Kuldeep Yadav or Axar Patel by benching a seamer. Ahead of the match, Nayar was asked if the Indian team was considering playing the local boy, Kuldeep in the second Test and to which, he replied that the playing XI hasn’t been finalized yet and the condition on Day 1 will be crucial in determining it.

“I can’t give you the playing XI right now. Everyone is available. Don’t know which surface we are going to play on yet. Conditions would be a big factor in deciding the team combination. Conditions have changed here so much, we expect a sunny day here tomorrow,” Nayar said during the pre-match press conference.

The Kanpur pitch curator noted that the surface would have something for all the cricketers. He expects the pacers to get some advantage in the first two sessions of the day and also believes that the batters will love batting on the opening two days.
