In a heart-warming display of sportsmanship, New Zealand cricketer Colin Munro stole the show during Islamabad United’s clash against Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024. The match witnessed an unforgettable moment when Munro, after a ball boy redeemed himself with a sensational catch, embraced him with a warm hug.

Earlier in the innings, when Peshawar’s Faheem Ashraf had struck a six off Aamer Jamal, the same boy had dived full stretch but agonizingly grassed the chance. A disheartened look spread across his face before Munro provided some reassuring words and put an arm around his shoulders.

Ball boy redeems himself

As fate would have it, the young ball-boy spectacularly redeemed himself, The incident occurred in the fag end of Peshawar’s run chase when Arif Yaqoob lofted Rumman Raees for a massive six over deep square leg. The ball appeared destined to sail over the boundary before the ball boy, he flung himself forward and took an incredible catch, much to the delight of the fielding side.

Munro, the Islamabad opener who had consoled the disappointed boy after his initial dropped chance, couldn’t contain his joy when the catch took place. The Kiwi leaped in celebration before racing towards the young lad and surrounding him in a warm hug and acknowledged his brilliant effort.

Despite Munro’s modest contribution with the bat during Islamabad United’s innings, the team soared to a formidable total of 196/4 in 20 overs. Subsequently, they defended their score with ease, clinching victory by 29 runs and placing themselves in third place on the points table, ahead of Peshawar Zalmi. While Islamabad and Peshawar boast rich histories in the PSL, having secured titles in previous seasons, they continue to strive for elusive championship glory.
