Star England batter Joe Root recently came forward to share his thoughts on England’s latest loss to Sri Lanka in the third Test of the recently concluded series. It is worth noting that England had already won the series by defeating Sri Lanka in the first two Tests; the side lost the third and final Test at the Oval.

However, despite the loss, Joe Root maintained a healthy approach and opined that a side cannot play their best cricket on every occasion. He also compared the national team to the famous band ‘Coldplay’, drawing comparisons from their standings in the music charts.

“Coldplay can’t be No. 1 every week. We are not always going to get it right all of the time. For 90% of the summer we have. We have shown what a good team we can be. I don’t think we played our best cricket this week and that is going to happen from time to time. Coldplay can’t be number one every week,” Root was quoted as saying by the BBC Test Match Special.

We are constantly learning and evolving as a group: Root

It is worth noting that Joe Root scored 375 runs for England in the three-Test series against Sri Lanka, and at 33 years old, the star batter seems to be hitting his prime. Interestingly, he is also closing in on Sachin Tendulkar’s record of Test runs and only requires about 3,519 runs in the format to equal his record. He did state that he and his side continue to evolve with every match.

“We are constantly learning and evolving as a group, and it is nice to contribute to that. It is important we are authentic to what we are as a team and what brings out the best in our individual players,” he concluded.

Being the only active cricketer with 10,000+ runs in Test cricket, Joe Root has become one of the most important batters in the side, and he will hope to continue his form going forward.
