Over the years, cricket has evolved drastically and found ways of determining a winner in case of rain interruptions or a tie. In case of a tie, bowl-outs or a Super Over helps to decide a winner and in the case of rain interruptions, the DLS method comes to the rescue.

However, Bermuda Cricket Board has come up with a rather bizarre method to decide a winner during the Knockout Cup if a game is unable to be played as a result of poor weather as the winner will be decided with coin toss. The home team will get a chance to flip the coin and the away team will call under the supervision of Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association.

“If there is rain, as we’ve had quite a bit here lately, there will be a coin toss. The name drawn first is designated as the home team. They will flip the coin and the away team will call heads or tails, and that will be supervised by the Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association. That’s how they will handle this in case there is inclement weather so games can go ahead,” Steven Douglas, the BCB cricket chairman, was quoted as saying by the Royal Gazette.

The first round of the tournament will feature ten teams who will compete for a share of $3,750 in prize money with the winners receiving $1,000, runners-up $750, losing semi-finalists $500 and losing quarter-finalists $250.

Final to be played on July 9

The first round will begin on Saturday, June 17 with the Bermuda Under-19 team going up against St David’s. The action will continue on Sunday with Willow Cuts facing Western Counties rivals Somerset Bridge, St George’s facing off Flatts, Southampton Rangers are up against Cleveland while Warwick will face Western Stars.

The quarter-finals will begin on June 25 when Bay, Somerset and Devonshire Rec, who have got a bye in the first round, will join the competition.

The semi-finals will take place on July 2 and the final will be held on July 9 and the venues for all the matches are yet to be confirmed by the BCB. The draw for every round will be held on Monday before the games.
