West Indies icon Chris Gayle had no hesitation in naming the legendary MS Dhoni as the most successful captain of the Indian cricket team. The southpaw is currently in India as he is plying his trade in the ongoing Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2024.
Gayle and Dhoni are two enormous figures in world cricket who have earned the respect and adulation from cricket enthusiasts around the globe. Gayle hailed Dhoni as a trend-setter and also praised Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for their services as India’s skippers.

“Dhoni has been the most successful captain for India. The guy has actually set the trend and overall, Rohit Sharma did his job well and Virat Kohli did his job pretty much,” Gayle was quoted as saying by TOI.
Dhoni captained India in an astounding 200 ODIs and won 110 matches out of those. India tasted defeat in 74 ODIs under his leadership, while 16 games ended up as a no-result. He had spearheaded India to victory in three major International Cricket Council (ICC) events: the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011, and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Dhoni has also led Chennai Super Kings to five IPL titles over the years and that has also contributed to his stature as a captain.
Every bowler is pretty much tough, but the ‘Universe Boss’ is just tougher: Chris Gayle
Gayle was also asked to name the toughest bowler he has faced in his career. The former West Indies captain had a cheeky reply up his sleeve as he said that no bowler is tough enough for the ‘Universe Boss’.
“The toughest bowler, is he born or is he still alive? I’m not sure. So, all bowlers are tough because every bowler tries and gets a chance to pick a wicket.”

“Every baller can actually just take one ball to get here, but at the same time, it’s fun going up against some quality top-class fast bowlers and spinners as well. Every bowler is pretty much tough, but the ‘Universe Boss’ is just tougher,” he added.
