The Men in Blue lost the match in front of their home fans at the colossal Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad by six wickets as Australia clinched a record-extending sixth ODI World Cup title.

India and Australia are set to face each other in semi-final 1 of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Tuesday, March 4. Ahead of this clash, CricTracker takes a look at India’s abysmal record against Australia in knockout matches of ICC events.

India’s head-to-head record against Australia in ICC knockout matches:

India’s last win against the Aussies in the knockout stage of an ICC event came in the 2011 ODI World Cup quarterfinal. MS Dhoni-led India beat Australia by five wickets in Ahmedabad on the back of Yuvraj Singh’s all-round heroics.

The Asian giants also defeated Australia in the 2007 T20 World Cup semi-final and the quarter-final of the Champions Trophy in 2000.

Meanwhile, Australia registered their biggest win against India in the knockout stage of an ICC event in the 2003 ODI World Cup final. Australia also defeated them in the 2015 ODI World Cup semi-final and the World Test Championship final in 2023.

India reached the semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025 after winning three games in a row against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand. Meanwhile, Australia registered an awe-inspiring win against England in their opening fixture as they chased down a 352-run target with five wickets to spare.
