The hundred Glenn Maxwell
Australia star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is raring to go for Birmingham Bears ahead of the Vitality Blast, scheduled to kickstart on Wednesday, May 24. Notably, the Bears will play their first assignment of the season against Leicestershire Foxes on Friday, May 26, at Grace Road in Leicester.
Maxwell, who signed for the Bears ahead of the forthcoming edition, arrived in Birmingham on Monday, May 22, and is gearing up for the competition. Moreover, he expressed his delight to play in front of the home crowd against Lancashire at the Edgbaston on Monday.
“I can’t wait to get started. I love playing in the Blast. There are lots of limited-overs competitions around the world, but the Blast is right up there in terms of excitement, passion and competition. It’s been a busy schedule at the IPL (it was Maxwell’s 28th visit to India to play cricket), but I’m fit and feel in good form,” Maxwell was quoted as saying by ‘Warwickshire County Cricket Club’.
“I saw the lads had a great start to the tournament. I’m really looking forward to Friday and of course in front of the amazing Edgbaston crowd on Monday. It should be a special day,” he added.
Maxwell relished decent IPL 2023 season
Notably, Maxwell recently concluded his campaign with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2023 following the loss against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, May 21. Plying his trade for RCB, the explosive Aussie relished a decent season with 400 runs in 14 appearances, lacing it with five half-centuries to his name.
It is worth mentioning that Maxwell is closing in on 9,000 career T20 runs and will look to breach the impressive mark in the forthcoming Vitality Blast campaign. The swashbuckling right-hander has collected 8851 runs in 391 matches which includes 52 fifties and five centuries. Maxwell will aim to maintain his purple patch and come to all guns blazing for the Birmingham Bears in their campaign.
