Tammy Beaumont hammered a stellar double-century in the One-off Test against Australia at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Saturday, June 24. In the process, she became the first Englishwoman to smash a double-century in the history of the Women’s Ashes.

Notably, it was after the Aussies posted a humongous first innings total of 437 runs that England’s Beaumont got into her groove, right from the word go. The batter left no stone unturned in giving the rival bowling unit a run for their money and played a scintillating knock.

At the close of Day 2, the opener remained unbeaten 100 off 152 balls to help the derailed side get back on track. On the following day, Beaumont handed no respite to the Aussie bowling attack as she continued her natural flair and brilliant stroke-playing ability, which garnered her massive runs.

Unbeaten on 194 at Tea, all eyes were on the opener to register her maiden double-century. Shortly after the break, Tammy Beaumont attained the impressive feat, as she notched up her double ton after taking a quick single while being up against Annabel Sutherland in the second ball of the 116th over.

Not only did she receive a standing ovation from the crowd and England dressing room for her double ton (208 runs), but it was also the first double-century by an English cricketer in the history of the Women’s Ashes. Multiple records tumbled, as she also became only the fifth player in the Ashes history of women to slam a double-century, joining the likes of Australian cricketers Karen Louise Rolton, Ellyse Perry, Joanne Broadbent, and Michelle Ann Jane Goszko.

Furthermore, Beaumont broke the 88-year-old record for England’s highest score in women’s cricket, which was set by Betty Snowball in 1935. Snowball registered 189 runs against New Zealand at Christchurch, which has now been eclipsed by the English opener in the first Women’s Ashes at Trent Bridge.
