Brad Haddin feels India will play Kanpur-style cricket in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The sheer manner in which India wrapped up the two-match Test series against Bangladesh in Kanpur was something which will be recalled for a long time. With two-and-a-half days washed out due to rain and a wet outfield, it seemed unlikely that India would be able to produce a result on play resuming on Day 4 of the game. However, the bowlers and batters attacked from the get-go, resulting in a brilliant seven-wicket victory achieved in a race against the clock.

Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter, Brad Haddin, recently commended the manner in which India approached the rain-truncated game at Green Park, and felt they might just stick to the assertive brand of cricket during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under. Although Australia have always been a force to reckon with, especially in the longest format and replicating similar heroics against them in their backyard will not be as straightforward. However, Haddin has a different opinion.

“I actually do (If India will play the same kind cricket in Australia). Because, if you look at this result, the worst result for India would have been a draw. There was no way India would have lost it. Rohit had nothing to lose. How good was it to watch! It’s a wonderful way to win Test cricket. They gave themselves a chance to win the game. It was not about ‘how many runs I score’, it is about finding enough time to bowl Bangladesh out. They played a great brand of cricket, but it was all about giving them enough time. My hat goes off to the support staff, Rohit Sharma…he has always been this sort of captain: Win first. I love the style of cricket,” stated Haddin, while speaking on the LisTNR podcast.

I take my hats off to India: Haddin   

Haddin also was full praise for Rohit Sharma‘s frame of mind, and could not extol the Indian team enough for their effort.

“The mindset of Rohit Sharma to find a way to manipulate a result…teams are scared to go 10 runs/over in 20-over cricket! I take my hats off to India,” concluded Haddin.
