There is no doubt that the Indian team is loaded with immense talent. Over the years, there have been many players who have made a significant impact on Indian cricket, and on the other hand, there have been several others who, despite having the talent, were not given enough opportunities to prove themselves.

One of the biggest examples of such a player has been Sanju Samson. At 29 years old, Sanju Samson has played just 28 T20Is for India sporadically, where he has scored 444 runs to his name at an average of 21.14 runs.

He was also part of India’s T20 World Cup squad but did not play a single game for the side as Rishabh Pant was India’s first-choice wicketkeeper throughout the tournament. Recently, former India cricketer Amit Mishra came forward to talk about how it is nearly impossible for Samson to make a comeback in the side now.

“I dont think that Samson will play the next World Cup because he is now 34 years old, there are many young players, and VIrat Kohli brought forth this concept that young players perform more in T20 cricket,” Amit Mishra said in an interview with Shubhankar Mishra.

“He can play the next World Cup, but he will have to perform extraordinarily well in order to be selected. Either he is now in the team, so he should maintain his position until the next World Cup, otherwise, it will be very difficult,” he added.

Experience matters in T20s: Mishra

Furthermore, Amit Mishra talked about how there are a plethora of players behind Samson’s position. He named the likes of Ishan Kishan, Dhruv Jurel, KL Rahul, and many more who are in line for selection as well.

“There is Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and many others who are behind you. The mindset of T20 cricket is around young players, but it is the seniors who win you the game in T20s as experience matters in the shortest format,” Mishra said.
