‘Bihari commentary is highly energetic, reminds me of old-school radio commentary’ – MS Dhoni on regional commentary in IPL

MS Dhoni was recently asked about his opinion on the commentary in regional languages in the IPL. The legendary cricketer claimed he hasn’t listened to the commentary of a lot of languages apart from English and Hindi. However, the CSK legend claimed he was interested in listening to Bhojpuri and Haryanvi commentary.

The 43-year-old said he listened to the commentary mostly in English and Hindi as the replays are limited while watching live matches. He felt that analysing the game was easier while listening in English or Hindi. He was happy to listen to what the commentators say as most of them are former cricketers. He praised the knowledge of the commentators who cover a lot of tournaments.

“I haven’t listened to regional language commentary much because when we watch live matches, replays are limited, and most of the commentary I hear is in English or Hindi. That helps us analyze the game better. Personally, I also like listening to what commentators say because most of them are former players,” said MS Dhoni on JioHotstar.

Mahi claimed the commentators cover hundreds of matches from different countries and tournaments, while he was limited to playing just a season of the IPL. He felt listening to their commentary would expose the team and management members to an outsider’s perspective. He felt it leads to new ideas and approaches which could affect the team strategy.

Dhoni claimed the Bihari commentary to be highly energetic and felt it reminded him of the old-school radio commentary. He was aware of the fact that many wish to listen to the commentary in their mother tongue. The former CSK skipper concluded by saying he would love to hear the Haryanvi commentary.

“I haven’t heard a lot of regional commentary, but I know that the Bihari (Bhojpuri) commentary is highly energetic. It reminds me of old-school radio commentary, where the commentators were very involved. I find that very interesting. Many people prefer to listen in their regional language—it’s their mother tongue, and they want to experience the game in that way. I would love to hear the Haryanvi commentary because it’s unique,” Dhoni added.
