In a major development for the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), the Bihar government made the decision to transfer the registry of the land for the Moin-ul-Haq stadium to the BCA. The stadium has been transferred on a 30-year lease to host international matches in Patna and to provide state cricketers with a state-of-the-art venue.
It is also worth noting that the land registry fee has amounted to INR 37 crore. The registry documents were signed by Sports Department Director Mahendra Kumar and BCA President Rakesh Tiwari. Interestingly, Rakesh Tiwari even announced that the date for the construction’s foundation-laying ceremony will be given later.
“The BCA will expedite the construction and deliver a world-class stadium to the people of Bihar within two to three years, where they can enjoy international matches,” Tiwari was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
The stadium will have a seating capacity of 40,000 spectators and will have 76 corporate boxes, with arrangements for as many as 250 VIPs. Furthermore, the sports complex in the venue will come equipped with a badminton court, a volleyball court, a swimming pool, a hostel for the players, and various modern modern features.
The revamped stadium promises to completely transform the cricket infrastructure in Bihar, and the BCA will hope that the new stadium can bring about change in their cricketing structure.
Currently, the venue has a seating limit of 25,000 spectators. The last international game that the venue hosted was an India versus South Africa Women’s World Cup clash on December 22, 1997. Furthermore, it has also hosted the 1996 World Cup match between Kenya and Zimbabwe. With the construction work being completed, the BCA will hope that they will be able to host some more international matches in the future.
