Jasprit Bumrah was the force to reckon with in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25). The star India pacer picked 32 wickets across five games and unfortunately had to miss the second innings of the final Test due to back spasms. His prowess with the ball was applauded by fans and cricket pundits alike and former Australia Skipper, Ricky Ponting has joined the bandwagon.
Bumrah surpassed former India Captain, Kapil Dev in becoming the pacer with the most wickets on Australian soil for India. Bumrah claimed 64 wickets at an impressive average of 17.15, whereas, Dev has 51 wickets to his name at an average of 24.58. While speaking highly of the right-arm pacer, Ponting admitted that the performance by the India Vice-Captain was the best series of fast bowling he had ever seen.
“No doubt, it’s probably the best series of fast bowling I’ve ever seen. Yes, they had good conditions, the fast bowlers, for most of this series. But when you watched him (Bumrah) bowl compared to anyone else in the series, he made batting look so much harder,” Ponting said as quoted by ICC.
“There’s a lot of quality batting in that Australian top-order as well but he made all of them at different times look silly,” he added.
You have to respect your body: Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah had to walk out of the field after he was uncomfortable with his back. He later went for scans and returned to the dressing room. As India were defending a meagre target of 162 runs on Day 3, he did not take the field and expressed his dejection after India lost the Sydney game.

“Little frustrating but sometimes you have to respect your body, you can’t fight your body. Disappointing, probably missed out on the spiciest wicket of the series. I felt a bit of discomfort during my second spell in the first innings,” said Bumrah after the game.
