India all-rounder Vijay Shankar has opened up about the Impact Player strategy and thoughts he has as an Impact Player for Gujarat Titans. On April 4, he was introduced as GT’s Impact player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Delhi Capitals. He was instrumental in a six-wicket victory, scoring 29 off 23 deliveries and putting together a 53-run fourth-wicket stand with Sai Sudharsan.
Following the game, Vijay stated that becoming an Impact player is not an easy task. The 32-year-old expressed that as an Impact player, you must be ready to go from the moment the team steps into bat, particularly during the chase.
“It was actually not that easy because if you’re playing and if you know your role, what is it that you’re going to do, it’s totally different,” he told in an IPL video.
“But being an Impact Player you need to be switched on right from the time the team walks into bat, especially when you are batting second. Depending on the role that we get, we need to be really open. Last game you did it, you replaced Kane. This game, me coming in and having a partnership, was good fun,” he added.

Sudharsan played a vital role for Gujarat in the IPL 2023 opener against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), scoring 22 runs off 17 deliveries in the reigning champions’ five-wicket win. In the match against DC, he scored an unbeaten 62 off 48 balls and emerged as the Player of the Match.
Vijay also told Sudharsan that they have played only four or five innings together, and the one against Delhi was the third 50-run partnership. In response, the southpaw stated it was an essential partnership with Vijay.
“I think we have played hardly four-five innings together and this is like a third 50-run partnership,” Vijay told Sudharsan.
“I think it was a much-needed partnership between me and Vijay anna. At that point, it was a bit tricky. You have to take some time and we cannot take dot balls. So we have to just keep the scorecard moving. It was pretty interesting to bat,” said Sudharsan.
