The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a splendid initiative, as Secretary Jay Shah announced that they will be giving a sum of INR 8.5 crore to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to support their endeavors in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
This year’s Olympic Games will officially open this Friday, July 26. Around 10,500 athletes from more than 200 nations, will be enthralling sports enthusiasts with their respective crafts. 329 medals across 32 sports and 45 sporting events will be up for grabs and the marquee competition.

Shah took to his official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle to announce BCCI’s decision to help the IOA as their athletes look to bring glory to the nation.
“I am proud to announce that the @BCCI will be supporting our incredible athletes representing #India at the 2024 Paris Olympics. We are providing INR 8.5 Crores to the IOA for the campaign. To our entire contingent, we wish you the very best. Make India proud! Jai Hind,” Shah wrote.

Indian fans will be hopeful of a strong show from their athletes at the showpiece event after their memorable campaign in the previous edition, held in Tokyo three years back. In the Tokyo Games, the Indian contingent accumulated the best-ever haul of seven medals, including the historic javelin throw gold by Neeraj Chopra. Therefore, expectations are quite high ahead of the Paris Olympics.

While cricket lovers will be watching other sports at the multi-nation competition this year, in the 2028 edition of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, they will be able to witness their favourite sport. Cricket is set to make its second appearance in the Olympics in 2028. In 1900, the sport was played for the only time at the Summer Games. This was only the second edition of the event.
