BCCI mulls over Gautam Gambhir for Indian Team’s head coach position

BCCI mulls over Gautam Gambhir for Indian Team's head coach position

The BCCI is actively searching for a new head coach for the Indian men’s cricket team, with names like Ricky Ponting, Stephen Fleming, and Gautam Gambhir. The hunt for the Indian men’s team’s new head coach is on. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is leaving no stone unturned to catch hold of the best in the business. Few names became fodder to the rumour mills, with the likes of Ricky Ponting, Stephen Fleming, and even Justin Langer’s name making some good sound. If the latest rumours are to be believed, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has joined the fray.

Gambhir has been quite active even after his retirement from international cricket. He had mentored Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League 2023. He has donned the mentor’s hat once again in the IPL 2024 for Kolkata Knight Riders. Under him, KKR have qualified for the playoff in the latest edition of IPL and are perched atop the points table. This could have played a major role in the BCCI think tanks chewing over the former southpaw’s name.

Speaking of the current head coach of the Indian team. Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the coach ends with the culmination of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June. While he is eligible to re-apply for the position, it seems highly unlikely of him to do so. The new head coach’s tenure will be of over three years and will end by December 31, 2027.

Gambhir was a big match player for Team India

Gambhir was a big match player for Team India as he had bailed out the team in crunch situations. He played a match-winning knock in the Finals of the T20 World Cup 2007 when the top order collapsed.
