Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials recently came forward to claim that the board’s president, Nazmul Hassan, is all set to quit his post in order to cooperate with the government to bring reform. Currently in his fourth term as the BCB president, Hassan has been hiding with his wife in London ever since the political unrest in the country began.

Since August 5, several other board directors who have the support of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have also been in hiding. Furthermore, it has been reported that the few board directors who are in Dhaka organised a meeting on August 14 to discuss their next course of action.

It is also worth noting that many former board officials, along with organisers, arrived at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, demanding the resignations of the Nazmul-led panel from the board.

“One of our directors is in touch with him and, according to him, Papon bhai is ready to cooperate (with the government) and is also prepared to quit from the President’s post to bring reform in the board,” a BCB director told Cricbuzz.

According to the same report, Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud met with BCB officials recently to discuss and figure out if the board can appoint an interim head under the ICC framework.

It is worth noting that the current board’s tenure is set to end in October 2025, but the board directors expressed their concerns that their stepping down from their positions would impact Bangladesh’s hosting of the next T20 World Cup scheduled to be played in October this year.

Furthermore, the BCB has also sought out a legal team to go over their guidelines and figure out a way to run the board with many officials absent. They are also in touch with the interim government officials, regularly updating them about the plan of action.
