Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced its squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against India Women, and it includes notable changes. Two key players, Jahanara Alam, and Fargana Hoque, have been left out, along with all-rounder Lata Mondal and left-arm pacer Fariha Trisna. Furthermore, left-hand batter Rubya Haider will be sidelined due to a knee injury.
Jahanara Alam, the second-highest scorer for Bangladesh in T20Is, will be missed as Bangladesh aims to put up a strong performance against India. However, the team has included experienced all-rounder Salma Khatun, as well as batters Dilara Akter, Shathi Rani, and the promising 16-year-old Shorna Akter. Nigar Sultana will lead the batting lineup, while Shathi Rani may open in one of the matches after displaying impressive form during the domestic season.
Bangladesh’s bowling attack will heavily rely on their spinners, as the squad includes Salma Khatun, Fahima Khatun, Nahida Akter, Ritu Mondol, Sanjida Akter, and Sultana Khatun. With only two pacers, Marufa Akter and the uncapped Disha Biswas, Bangladesh’s spinners will play a crucial role in the series.
The three-match T20I series will start on July 9, followed by matches on July 11 and July 13, all to be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. After that, there will be a two-day break and then the teams will be competing in a three-match ODI series starting on July 16, with the second and third matches scheduled for July 19 and July 22, respectively.
So far, Bangladesh women’s team and India women’s team have played 13 T20 matches against each other. Out of those 13 matches, Indian women have emerged victorious in 11 of them, whereas Bangladesh women have secured victory on two occasions. This record clearly indicates that the upcoming series will pose a formidable challenge for Bangladesh women’s team.
Bangladesh Women’s team will be looking to put up a strong fight against the formidable Indian side, utilizing the talents of their revamped squad. The absence of key players like Jahanara Alam and Fargana Hoque will certainly be felt, but the inclusion of experienced and promising players offers an opportunity for Bangladesh to showcase their depth and potential.
